"To find your greatness, find your voice."
Teen poetry workshops help students with writing, creativity, editing, and performance.
Teenagers face some of the same roadblocks as we did 20 years ago, but they are challenged with very different obstacles too. Peer pressure, bullying, body shaming, sexual/gender identity, suicide, self-harming, and the need to fit in plaque our youth. LMNOP writing workshops were developed with these things in mind.
Youth need to know that their voice matters. With LMNOP teenagers have a safe space to explore their creative sides while receiving the health benefits that come with artistic outlets. LMNOP workshops are judgment-free zones where teens are free to be themselves.
When working with CP in LMNOP workshops participants can:
Mission statement – Show teens the power of artistic expression, authenticity, and thier voice through poetry.
While working with the YMCA at the Sterling Community Center in Greenville, SC Hayle` taught/tutored middle and high school students. They were given time to de-stress and unwind. A lot of the students would use music to clear their heads. CP noticed the youth would repeat lyrics without having a full understanding of what they were saying. She offered the students an opportunity to break down the lyrics and research facts about stanzas in different songs. As they became comfortable with the process, she went on to give them writing prompts so they could begin writing on their own,
During their research, the kids began to comprehend how lyrics are birthed, formed an appreciation of words, and were challenged to start writing. The students shared life hardships and were vulnerable beyond understanding. They were able to express feelings that were deeply rooted in pain and covered in a hard facade. With LMNOP they were able to learn how important their feelings were, that their voices mattered, and how to let go of what was holding them back (emotionally and mentally). This sparked an idea and LMNOP was birthed!
LMNOP provides the teens the tools to be better equipped to communicate their emotions using a healthy, safe avenue, see art in an out-of-the-box way, and to allow them the health benefits that come with writing and performance.
LMNOP has since grown to include one-on-one and group sessions for both teens and adults.

"My experience with LMNOP has been life changing. It's one thing to have an art but it's another thing to know how to express it in a form that touches your audience past the point of impact. LMNOP has taught me the importance of the message as well as its presentation. I would recommend these service and workshops to anybody. These are more then workshops, poetry ... this is a family. ... this is family making words move. " Shuntrice Smoot, Teacher, Minister | Fountain Inn, SC

"CP is a wonderful writing coach. She has coached me in writing for a couple of years and I have yet to walk away from a session without being challenged in some way. She has an incredible way of pushing until you are telling your full truth. While it may seem painful at the beginning, her tough love coaching never fails to lead me to a new level of authenticity. A writing session with CP will leave you feeling hugged and powerful. I especially appreciate that I have been able to apply her lessons not only to writing but also to other endeavors of my life. I highly recommend CP as both a writing coach and a mentor - just be prepared to dig deep! " Cassandra Byrd, Poet, Manager, Teacher | Spartanburg, SC

"I started writing poetry in the 3rd grade. I wrote a love poem to my teacher and of course she turned me down lol. I started slamming in 2014. The team I was apart of didn't have a lot of time to prepare but CP didn't care. She taught us how to write what we feel and feel what we wrote. She listened to our stories and was able to help us put our thoughts on paper and create beautiful poems. To this day, I STILL apply everything she taught me and I was able to go back and revise my love poem to my 3rd grade teacher. I'm pretty sure she'd still turn me down lol but thanks to CP, my art form and I have grown beautifully. " Trez Rodgers, Poet, Performer, Driver | Greenville, SC
